Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, arranged by Matt Riley, is a full orchestra showpiece commissioned by Dr. Kevin Bartram. Expanding an earlier 60-second idea into a complete work, it blends the power of the orchestra with modern elements like electric violin, electric guitar, and drums. The piece moves between delicate, reflective passages and bold, high-energy climaxes, giving every section of the orchestra a moment to shine, while melodic material from Bach’s original work is recognizable but reimagined in surprising ways.
Suitable for advanced high school, collegiate, and professional orchestras.

Toccata Sheet Music and Performance Accompaniment Track (60 second version)

This digital download includes sheet music for Violin, Viola, cello and the Performance Accompaniment Track. This could piece could easily be performed as a violin solo and doesn't necessarily need to be performed with viola or cello. It's more fun that way though! I also have a version for 3 violins. Send an email to mat@mattrileymusic.com if you are interested in that. If you would like to perform this with a live band, a basic Rhythm Section part is also included which has a mix a standard and rhythmic notation with chord symbols for a guitarist, bassist and drummer to follow and improvise their parts based on the recording. The two reference recordings below are also included.
The arrangement was originally commissioned by a violinist and violist who were entering the World Championships of Performing Arts in L.A. in July 2013. The time requirement for the arrangement was 60 seconds. They won a silver metal with this one! They also won another silver and a bronze for their performances on two other tracks I did for them. I'm considering creating a longer version but I don't know when I'll be able to get around to it. ☺

This is a digital product. Just download, print and play! The Conductor's Score is formatted for 11x17 size paper and the parts are formatted for 8.5x11 paper but can easily be scaled up to 9x12 or 10x13 if desired.

We partner with a print shop that specializes in music printing to professionally print music which includes imposition, parts, page turns, score binding, etc. They do great work and they do it every day. What we print for each musical work:
Score
All parts including any multiples (e.g. 8 copies of Violin I for the section) or alternate parts needed (e.g. Trumpet in B♭ alt. for Trumpet in C, etc.)
Scores: Covers on white, 80lb card stock. Score pages on Tabloid, Legal, Concert or Letter (depending on score size) white 28lb paper. Saddle-stitched binding for smaller scores. Black spiral coil binding for larger scores.
Parts: 1-page parts on white 68 lb. letter size paper or Concert size depending on the piece. Multi-page parts on white 28 lb. tabloid or super tabloid and folded/saddle stitched

This purchase includes an immediate download of the PDF and Finale files for the orchestral score and parts. Finale 2014 or later is required to open the Finale file. If you have an older version of Finale or if you use Sibelius, Dorico or Logic X, you can import the score with the included MusicXML files. Most other music apps will be able to open the included MIDI file.
Note: when opening the Finale, you may not have the fonts that the file requires. This is no problem. Just navigate to the Document Menu, Set Default Music Font, and select Maestro.

This digital download includes the individual WAV files or "Stems" from the recording to allow you to create your own mix for live performance. Just download and drop into your favorite DAW at the same starting point and start mixing. If you plan to perform this piece with Rhythm Section, it is crucial that your drummer learn the part. This download includes two practice tracks for your drummer do that. The 1st track features the drums mixed loud compared the other instruments to aid in learning the part. The 2nd track removes drums from the mix to allow your drummer to rehearse with the other instruments and metronome click. A third track featuring only the metronome click is also included. The tracks are rendered in high quality MP3 Format.
