My new Christmas Overture is out. It's a six-and-a-half-minute concert opener for full orchestra, built on ten carols.
Carolers at the door. A peal of church bells. Joy to the World. A Sugar Plum wink in God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen. A solo clarinet on The First Noel and a brass chorale on O Come, All Ye Faithful. Then a false ending, and a finish that brings the house down with We Wish You a Merry Christmas and the Gloria from Angels We Have Heard on High.
I wrote it to fit a lot of groups. The choir is optional. So is the rhythm section. Use drum set or conga, add electric bass if you have one, or play it with orchestra alone. One score and one set of parts cover every version. Clarinet and trumpet parts come in B flat too.
Here's the score video of the fullest version, with drum set and choir.
You can hear all four versions on the product page, and get the score, parts and mockups there: https://mattrileymusic.com/christmas-overture
Electric guitar and handbell parts are coming soon as a free update.
Thank you to the conductors, colleagues and friends who listened to early drafts. You helped shape this piece.
Matt
