A driving, cinematic arrangement of Carol of the Bells and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen for solo viola, in D minor. The solo line sits high and singing on the C and G strings' warm side of the instrument, backed by a live pianist or the included professional accompaniment tracks. Everything a violist needs to perform it.

Sheet Music: The solo viola part in three versions so you can match it to the player — the Advanced version (recommended), a Legacy Advanced edition kept for players who learned the earlier printing, and a Late Intermediate version. The piano accompaniment comes as six viola-and-piano combined scores: the original set at Advanced, Intermediate, and Early Intermediate piano levels, plus the new 2026 editions pairing the Advanced viola with Advanced or Late Intermediate piano and the Intermediate viola with Late Intermediate piano. Whatever the pairing of player and pianist, there is a score for it.

Optional Intro Harmonics: As written, the solo enters after the introduction. An optional sheet beside the solo part gives the sustained opening harmonics from the Two Violas & Piano edition, for a soloist who would rather join the opening than wait for it.

Performance Accompaniment Tracks: The full Dm accompaniment library for live performance — the full orchestral mixes and the driving Standard mixes, in multiple revisions, with and without synth bass, with and without piano, so you can pick the exact sound for your venue. None include the viola, so you play the solo line live. A piano and string orchestra mix is included for a more intimate setting.

Rehearsal Tracks: Piano-only accompaniment recordings, so you can rehearse exactly what a live pianist would play before you step in front of the orchestra track.

Reference Recordings: The viola and piano version and the solo viola line on its own, so you know how it should sound and can check your phrasing against it.

Every way a small group might play this piece, in one bundle. All three chamber versions built around the viola, each with piano, plus a rhythm-section combo, with the complete Soloist Suite nested inside.

Two Violas & Piano: Sheet music for both viola parts. Each requires an advanced level of skill, and each gets its share of the melody and the fireworks, so both players share the glory. The two violas open the piece with sustained harmonics under the piano introduction. A combined score is included at Advanced and Intermediate piano levels. Performs with live piano or with any accompaniment track in the suite.

Viola, Violin & Piano: The duet version in D minor, with the viola and violin trading the melody and answering each other through the build. Combined score at Advanced and Intermediate piano levels, plus separate violin and viola parts. If you also program violin repertoire, the same trio appears in the Violin Ensemble Suite for Carol of the Bells.

Viola, Cello & Piano: The darker-toned version of the trio, viola on top and cello underneath, for groups with a strong low string player. Combined score plus separate parts.

Rhythm Section Combo: The rhythm-section chart plus written electric guitar, electric bass, and drum set parts, for playing this with a band instead of an orchestra. Pair it with the solo viola and a keyboard for a full hybrid sound in a room with a PA.

Reference Recordings: A recording for each chamber configuration, so you can hear the balance before you rehearse it.

Both string orchestra arrangements of this piece, solo viola and two violas, with source files and the complete Ensemble Suite nested inside. A rare chance to put a violist out front, and a great opportunity to feature the player who usually sits in the middle of the texture.

Viola & String Orchestra: The solo line moves between lyrical phrasing, expressive ornamentation, and moments of virtuosic intensity while the strings build to an epic modulation near the end. Conductor's score with an instrumentation page and notes to the director, the Advanced solo viola part, and all section parts.

Two Violas & String Orchestra: The same rich orchestration with the solo book split across two equally stunning viola parts, so you can feature two players and let them share the glory.

Built for Real Sections: Every part comes in both 9x12 and US Letter. A Violin III (Viola T.C.) part is included as an alternate for the section viola line, so a group short on violists can put a violinist on it in treble clef. The ensemble itself has no piano; an Intermediate piano accompaniment score is included as a rehearsal aid, and as a way to perform the piece without a full string section.

Please note: that recording is the cello edition of this same arrangement — identical orchestration, same key, with the solo line an octave below the viola part. It is included so you can hear the strings and the shape of the piece, not as a viola performance.
